RAS garners
support for its Happy Toilet Programme (HTP) from Tanjong Pagar Town
Council (TPTC)
After a meeting with TPTC in
July, RAS has since worked closely with them to provide support in their preparatory
route to Happy Toilet certification. The first food centre at Blk 1 Jalan
Kukoh was certified in mid October with a 4-star rating. Thereafter, the
TPTC is targeting to achieve a minimum 4-star rating for 18 of its food
centres by 2014. On 18 November, TPTC Chairman Dr Lily Neo officiated the
unveiling of the 4-star certification at Blk 1 Jalan Kukoh together with our
President Ms Tan. As an initiative to encourage the attendants to play their
part to achieve 4-star ratings for the toilets they are maintaining, they
will be paid an additional $100 monthly with the TPTC funding $40 of the
pay increase.
The
TPTC becomes the third Town Council after Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC)
and Tampines Town Council (TTC), to come on board the HTP. The TPTC is
also the first Town Council with the most number of food centres
embarking on a minimum 4-star rating for its toilets. The latest Town
Council to participate is the East Coast Town Council (ECTC). Currently,
there are 43 market and food centres on board the HTP. 25 are managed by
the National Environment Agency, nine by AMKTC, four by JTC, three by
ECTC and one each by TPTC and TTC. There are a total of 112 market and
food centres and RAS hopes to achieve 100% HTP participation for all
market and food centres.

RAS provides
on-the-job training (OJT) to restroom attendants from Kopitiam and
Tanjong Pagar Town Council (TPTC)
A week
after certifying its food centre at Blk1 Jalan Kukoh in October, TPTC encouraged its cleaning service
providers to send their restroom attendants for the OJT to pick up the
necessary skills in restroom cleaning and maintenance. A total of eight attendants
from four cleaning service providers were
selected to attend the training. One month after the TPTC training,
Kopitiam also encouraged its cleaning service provider to send 10 of its
attendants for the OJT at its food court toilet in National University
Hospital.
The purpose
of the OJT is not only to equip the attendants with the right skills, it
also ensures the cleaning service provider provide the right tools for
the training. The OJT is also conducted on-site so that the attendants
need not have to familiarise themselves with the training venue. Since
the OJT started in April this year, RAS has conducted a total of 8
sessions for close to 80 attendants.
