In 2015, the RAS, Restroom Association (Singapore) reached new milestones with the launch of its World Toilet Day Commemoration Fund, Happy Toilets @ Preschools Programme and Guide to Better Preschool Toilet Design, Maintenance and Education. As we commence our new journey this year, we are already actively gearing up for our 5-year action plan of evolving as a Toilet Hub - a hub for all toilet matters concerning building owners, cleaning attendants and public users.

A hub for building owners: After the National Library Board, more building owners namely the Jurong Point Shopping Centre and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, have displayed their strong commitment by requesting their cleaning service providers to approach us, to train and assess their cleaning attendants for the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Perform Basic Cleaning of Washrooms module. This is part of their bid to achieve the highest six-star rating.

A hub for cleaning attendants: As Singapore progresses towards becoming a Smart Nation, there is a need to revolutionise cleaning methods by adopting smart technology. We are pleased to be involved in the Enhanced iSPRINT Partner Buzz initiative organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) to share our partner Adsec Global’s ozone air and water solutions with cleaning service providers. We continue to address the welfare of cleaning attendants as we participated in the St. Hilda's Secondary Annual Service Learning Symposium for the second year to rope in students to appreciate cleaning attendants not only working at shopping malls but also at preschools for the first time.

A hub for public users: User education remains our key focus as we reach out to the public of all ages. Apart from educating preschoolers and students under our preschool and school education programmes, we also reach out to working adults. We conducted an educational talk for staff of Jurong West Primary School prior to an assembly talk for its students. From the middle of this year, we also aim to organise more roadshows and exhibitions at shopping malls to reach out to more adults.

As we continue in our efforts of evolving as a Toilet Hub, we look forward to forging existing partnerships and creating new ones with government agencies, educational institutions and private companies to jointly actualise our 5-year action plan.
