In the early morning of 23rd April, at the invitation of the National Environment Agency (NEA), RAS set up an exhibition booth in conjunction with a mass beach cleanup activity at East Coast Park to commemorate the Youth for the Environment Day (Y4E Day). NEA successfully garnered the support and participation of more than 800 participants from 14 schools and 3 companies for this mass beach clean up activity. RAS not only showcased its current environmental programmes and initiatives but also provided a live platform for participants to pen down their feedback and comments.
Mr Lim Biow Chuan, who was then the Grassroots Advisor and Member of the Parliament for the Marine Parade GRC, graced the event under the company of Mr Andrew Tan, the Chief Executive Officer of NEA. Both took the lead to scout the beach for litter after flagging off the participants. Y4E Day is an initiative by the NEA with the objective of encouraging young Singaporeans to take ownership of the environment by safeguarding, nurturing and cherishing it for present and future generations. It was launched on 20th April in conjunction with the 2011 EcoFriend Awards.
