World Toilet Day 2012

During the first day of the two-day LOO (Let's Observe Ourselves) Carnival & Awards held at IMM, RAS launches LOO Whiz, its first online game developed by Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Interactive & Digital Media students. Gamers will get to experience the demanding work of a restroom attendant due to poor user behaviour. The purpose of the game is to educate the public to better appreciate the efforts of the restroom attendants by acting responsibly.

In this online game, gamers have to use the keyboard to control the movement of the game character LOO Whiz and left click on the mouse to select the right tools to clean up areas either dirtied or vandalised by irresponsible users. Gamers will also need to frequently left click on the mouse to replenish toilet paper due to wastage. From now till 31 March 2013, the top-three gamers with the fastest time will stand to win an Apple iPad, iPad mini and Canon digital camera respectively. Winners will be notified in April 2013. After the launch of LOO Whiz online game, A total of 16 recipients including the Best Happy Toilet category which is not open for nominations were invited on the stage to receive the LOO Awards from Guest of Honour Mr Liak. Same as last year, 57 nominations were received for three categories namely organisation, cleaning industry and individual. There is a substantial increase in the number of nominations from the cleaning Industry from 15 to 37, which is more than double the number of nominations received last year. Similar to the carnival last year, the LOO Awards ceremony was held on the first day of the two-day carnival which took place from 1st to 2nd December.

Exhibitors namely Tav Shield, ESG Asia Pacific, Inter-Lab Products and Rentokil Initial featured innovative restroom products and services. RAS also showcased its exhibition on the different facets of sanitation development in Singapore since the 1960s. Visitors to the carnival got to enjoy a firsthand experience of playing the LOO Whiz and participated in other educational games and activities. The LOO Carnival & Awards is organised to raise public awareness on the right restroom culture and recognise organisations and individuals for their contributions.
