RAS launches comprehensive hygiene checklists for preschools

At the APP-RAS LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Awards ceremony jointly organised by APP Commercial Pte Ltd (APP), the manufacturer of premium tissues PASEO and LIVI, and the RAS, a set of 10 hygiene checklists was launched to commemorate World Toilet Day. The checklists were developed mostly based on recommendations provided by reliable sources such as the latest 2019 edition Infection Prevention Guidelines for Primary Schools and Child Care Centres and the Sanitation and Hygiene Advisory for Preschools jointly issued by the Early Childhood Development Agency and the National Environment Agency.

Preschools not only can download the checklists from the RAS website but also contact RAS to request for training on the checklists. The set of 10 hygiene checklists covers the entire preschool environment and targets the four target groups namely children, teachers, cleaning and kitchen staff. Children and teachers will each have one checklist while kitchen staff will have two checklists. The remaining six checklists are for cleaning staff to perform cleaning tasks at entrances, offices, classrooms, communal rooms, infant/toddler care rooms and toilets.

RAS partners with APP to introduce Happy Toilets @ Preschools Projects Grant

The Happy Toilets @ Preschools Projects Grant was also introduced when the preschool checklists were launched on 19th November, World Toilet Day. The grant, which is capped at $200 per preschool, is opened for application from now till 31 March. A maximum of 20 preschools participating in the Happy Toilets @ Preschools Programme can tap into the grant to embark on projects namely decoration, inspection, exhibition and appreciation (showing kindness to cleaning and kitchen staff).

Training will be conducted for teachers of participating preschools to equip them with the knowledge and resources to guide their children from N1 to K2 (4 to 6 years), to execute the projects. Since 2015, RAS has been actively reaching out to more than 100 preschools under its Happy Toilets @ Preschools Programme, to educate children, teachers and support staff on good hygiene practices. With the grant, RAS hopes preschools can take ownership of educating the children through hygiene-related projects and activities.

RAS and APP jointly present awards to recipients at the 12th LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Awards

Due to safe management measures amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the APP-RAS award ceremony lasted about three hours with award recipients and guests invited to be present at designated time slots. Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Dr Amy Khor kindly accepted RAS’ request to deliver a congratulatory video message to all award recipients. In her message, apart from reiterating the importance of keeping our toilets clean during this pandemic, she also extended her congratulations to all recipients – toilet owners, operators, cleaners, students, as well as schools, preschools and a cleaning company – for investing their significant time and effort to help create a cleaner, safer, more pleasant restroom experience for everyone.

In recognition of the important contributions made by committed restroom cleaning attendants in the fight against COVID-19, RAS increased the number of awarded attendants from 10 to 20 attendants this year. A diverse group of awarded attendants working at preschools, schools, hawker centres, offices, shopping centres, transport hubs and tourist attractions was also presented with $200 worth of grocery vouchers to help them through this difficult period. All recipients and guests also received goodie bags with a wide range of products kindly donated by the co-organiser APP.
