The RAS,
Restroom Association (Singapore) partnered with APP Commercial Pte Ltd
(APP) to launch a new set of hygiene
checklists for preschools, at the APP-RAS LOO (Let’s Observe
Ourselves) Awards held at APP’s office on 19 November to
commemorate World Toilet
Day. A Happy Toilets @ Preschools Projects Grant was also introduced
for preschools under the Happy Toilets @
Preschools Programme to tap into the grant for teachers to better educate
preschoolers through projects.
Since 2015, we have
been actively reaching out to more than 100 preschools under our Happy
Toilets @ Preschools Programme, to educate children, teachers and support
staff on good hygiene practices. With the current situation, it is timely
for us to launch these checklists to encourage all preschools to adopt good
hygiene practices. With the concurrent introduction of the Happy Toilets
@ Preschools Projects Grant, we hope preschools can take ownership of
educating the children through hygiene-related projects and activities.
At the LOO Awards
jointly organised by APP and RAS for the first time this year, it is
indeed heart-warming for me to present the awards to exemplary award
recipients, both organisations and individuals, for their outstanding
contributions. We are greatly indebted to Senior Minister of State for Sustainability
and the Environment, Dr Amy Khor, for her kind support of taking time to
record her video congratulatory message to the award recipients. Due to
safe management measures, it is regrettable that we were unable to invite
her to our award ceremony which was extended to three hours. Her video had
truly inspired and motivated the award recipients, including guests, to
continue to help Singapore sustain quality toilet standards.
With the coming of the
New Year and the beginning of a new phase in the fight against the
COVID-19 pandemic, RAS will continue to actively play its part to engage
all stakeholders to ensure our restroom environment remains safe and clean
for everyone in Singapore. However, this can only be actualised with all
stakeholders namely the owners & operators, cleaners and public users
playing their role.
