RAS conducts training on checklist and cleaning

In partnership with the National Environment Agency (NEA) as part of the Public Toilet Cleanliness initiative, RAS began conducting a series of training sessions from September for coffeeshop operators and cleaning attendants. The training programme, which is offered at no cost to the coffeeshop operators, aims to reach out to more than 1,000 coffeeshops islandwide. The 4-hour training programme equips coffeeshop operators and attendants with the right skills on assessing public toilet standards and cleaning public toilets.

The programme consists of both theory and practical sessions - the theory session covers the NEA’s Keep Singapore Clean Toilet Checklist which allows the cleaners to understand the minimum standard to meet for toilet cleanliness while the NEA’s Pictorial Guide on Washroom Cleaning Procedures trains the attendants on the proper steps of toilet cleaning including proper removal of human spillages such as vomit, blood, etc. After the theory session, the practical session covers trainer’s demonstration on cleaning tasks such as washing of urinals, toilet bowls and basins, which is followed by the attendants taking turns to perform the tasks under the guidance from the trainer.

RAS awards six-star restrooms to Suntec City Mall

Meeting and consultation with Suntec City Mall commenced in late December last year and six (male and female) restrooms were first accredited the five-star rating in January this year. However in their quest to achieve the six-star rating, months of preparation and implementation were required to adopt the holistic DFEC - Detect, Feedback, Eliminate and Clean smart restroom solutions. The six newly revamped restrooms were finally accredited the top six-star rating in July after meeting all the requirements.

Apart from meeting excellent service and cleanliness requirements, all cleaning attendants will need to be certified with the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) in washroom cleaning. Cleaning supervisors and facility-management staff will also need to attend a training conducted by the RAS on public toilet assessment or inspection. The training and assessment sessions were conducted for everyone in July. Suntec City Mall plans to upgrade the rest of its restrooms progressively to meet the highest rating in the next 2 years. The six-star rating is the top rating which was introduced in November 2014.

RAS completes the first phase of digitalising its operations
