With the phase
2 of reopening in June, the RAS, Restroom Association (Singapore) continues
to step up its essential services. In September, 20 training sessions were
conducted for more than 150 coffeeshop operators and cleaning attendants on
toilet cleaning and assessment, with more sessions planned in the months
ahead. This training programme, in partnership with the National
Environment Agency (NEA), is part of the Public
Toilet Cleanliness initiative.
This ongoing
initiative sees NEA working with RAS and premises owners of selected
locations such as hawker centres and public transport hubs to raise
cleanliness standards. A systematic approach is adopted with pre and post
audits, user education and training for cleaners. NEA and RAS are
currently offering the training programme of toilet assessments and cleaning,
to all coffeeshop operators at no cost. This programme aims to provide
support for coffeeshop operators to take active steps to improve toilet
cleanliness standards.
One of RAS’
essential services - Happy
Toilet accreditation has seen another new addition of its highest 6-star
accreditation awarded to Suntec City Mall. The first 6-star accreditation
was awarded to The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands in 2018 and it is
encouraging to see another premise owner to offer its 6-star restrooms to
patrons after two years. We hope more will follow suit to adopt holistic
smart solutions in toilet cleanliness and maintenance to meet our 6-star
standard. With the LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Awards coming in November,
we are expecting exemplary owners, operators, cleaning service providers,
cleaning attendants and individuals to be recognised during this crucial
period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
