After
years of actively promoting and implementing various restroom initiatives,
RAS efforts were paid off when we were awarded the Environmental Health
Stewardship Award 2009 by the Society of Environmental Health (Singapore).
Owing to my team’s commitment and contributions, I was honoured to receive
the EcoFriend Award from the National Environment
Agency (NEA) this year. On behalf of my team, I would like to express my
sincere appreciation for the support from everyone especially the NEA, our sponsors,
Happy Toilet owners and the general public. These two awards will spur us
to scale even greater heights with more milestone initiatives in the
future.
In
its bid to achieve the LOO Campaign goal of 70% public toilets with a
minimum 3-star Happy Toilet rating, RAS has been actively promoting its
Happy Toilet Programme (HTP) to F&B outlets such as Koufu.
I am heartened that Koufu, one of the most
established food court and coffeeshop operators, not
only aimed to achieve at least a 4-star rating for their toilets, they have
also gone through our training session to become Volunteer Eco-Assessors to
assess their own toilets. I hope more owners will emulate their commitment to
become quality F&B providers offering quality toilets.
In
its outreach, RAS continues to reach out to teachers, preschoolers,
primary, secondary and tertiary students by rolling out model restrooms in
schools, conducting hand-washing exercises in schools, sharing
restroom-etiquette tips with readers and participating in events such as
the Young ChangeMakers Conference 2009 for youths.
With
more events in the pipeline and upcoming events such as our signature
event, LOO Awards 2009, just around the corner, I anticipate more support
for our events and more public awareness on the need for clean and
user-friendly restrooms for all ages.
