RAS bids farewell to its outgoing Executive Director
(ED)
Mr Emerson Hee joined
the RAS in 2008 and successfully helmed the RAS through multiple
promotions from an executive position to senior management over the
period of 16 years. During his stint, strong partnerships were forged
with organisations from the people, private and public or 3P sectors.
These include the Building Construction Authority, National Environment
Agency and PUB from the public sector, which are the key government
agencies overseeing certain aspects of the public toilets in Singapore.
Toilet owners and smart product partners from private sectors such as
Sentosa, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and many other shopping centres
have actively participated in the Happy Toilet Programme for more than 10
years. Organisations from the people sector such as the Public Hygiene
Council continues to support RAS in the judging of its annual LOO Awards.
The LOO Awards was
conceptualised and executed by him in 2009. Since holding the management
position, he conceptualised, spearheaded and executed many projects and
programmes that enabled RAS to achieve milestones every year. Some of
these milestones were the LOO
Campaign @ Hawker Centres, Guide to Better Public Toilet Design
and Maintenance, Guide to Better Preschool Toilet
Design, Maintenance and Education, hygiene checklists for
preschools, on-site training programme on restroom cleaning and so
forth. RAS also successfully rebranded its corporate image as a one-stop
restroom hub which attracted DBS Bank, Asia's largest Real Estate
Investment Trust (REIT) Link REIT and a Chinese
MNC to approach RAS for training. Training and talks were also conducted
overseas by him in China, India, Malaysia and the United States. We believe
he will continue to excel in whatever he pursues in the future.

RAS certifies first condominium under
the Happy Toilet Programme (HTP)
Apart from certifying
the first condominium toilet at Warner Court in January, RAS also
certified the first HDB block toilet at block 414 in Yishun
operated by waste management company 800 Super. This
marked the commitment of the owners to ensure their toilets meet the HTP’s star-rating standard especially the
management of Warner Court, even though its toilet is only restricted to
its residents and thus it is not a
public toilet which can be accessed by the public. Other non-public
toilets such as office buildings and construction sites have continued to
participate in the HTP.
In February two
shopping centres namely Marina Square and West Mall joined the HTP family
for the first time with a 4-star rating. Shopping centres are one of the
key HTP owners and many shopping centres including those in the
heartlands have participated in the HTP for more than 10 years. 342
toilets from 36 shopping centres are certified with only The Shoppes at
Marina Bay Sands certified with the highest 6-star rating.
