RAS nominates five Happy Toilets for ASEAN Public Toilet Awards

Last year, the Singapore Tourism Board invited RAS to nominate five awardees for the biennial ASEAN Public Toilet Awards 2023-2024. On 5th February during the ASEAN Tourism Forum held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the awards were presented to five Happy Toilets rated 5 or 6 stars as follows:

·      The Shoppes at the Marina Bay Sands with the highest 6-star Happy Toilet rating meeting a score of 104 out of 108 and adoption of all 4 Detect, Feedback, Eliminate and Clean (DFEC) smart features.

·      East Coast Lagoon Food Village with the 5-star rating, a score of 96 and 3 DFC smart features.

·      Mount Faber Peak with the 5-star rating, a score of 98 and 2 EC smart features.

·      Seletar Country Club with the 5-star rating and a score of 98 and 3 FEC smart features.

·      Sentosa’s Palawan Beach West with the 5-star rating and a score of 97 and 2 DF smart features.

The criteria of our Happy Toilet accreditation, which had been favourably and highly regarded by the judges, were very similar to the judging criteria and requirements for the ASEAN Public Toilet Awards. The added smart features installed in the awarded 5 or 6-star Happy Toilets further boosted their value to qualify for the awards. Five Happy Toilets were first awarded in 2019 at the ASEAN Tourism Awards held in Vietnam.

RAS certifies another integrated hub under the Happy Toilet Programme (HTP)

RAS is pleased to certify a sport facility for the first time. The sport hall at Bukit Canberra was certified 5 stars on 28th February and this would welcome avid sport lovers with smart Happy Toilets. 15 years ago in 2008, RAS was one of the Green Ambassadors of the first Youth Olympic Games held in 2010. RAS worked with the then Singapore Sports Council to spruce up all the public toilets in their sport complexes.

Together with the sport hall, the hawker centre at Bukit Canberra was also certified 4 stars. Both amenities were newly opened to the public. Bukit Canberra is an integrated sport and community hub with amenities such as a hawker centre, indoor and outdoor sport facilities, a polyclinic, a senior care centre and so forth. The Heartbeat @ Bedok is the first integrated hub to be Happy Toilet certified.

RAS conducts training for preschool support staff of PAP Community Foundation (PCF)

On 14th March, RAS conducted training for preschool support staff of PCF. The training was conducted based on a set of hygiene checklists launched in 2020 by RAS President Mr Ho. The checklists were developed mostly based on recommendations provided by reliable sources such as the latest 2019 edition Infection Prevention Guidelines for Primary Schools and Child Care Centres and the Sanitation and Hygiene Advisory for Preschools jointly issued by the Early Childhood Development Agency and the National Environment Agency.

There are altogether 10 hygiene checklists which cover the entire preschool environment and target the four groups namely children, teachers, cleaning and kitchen staff. Children and teachers will each have one checklist while kitchen staff will have two checklists. The remaining six checklists are for cleaning staff to perform cleaning tasks at entrances, offices, classrooms, communal rooms, infant/toddler care rooms and toilets. Training on the 8 checklists for cleaning and kitchen staffs was conducted on 14th March.
