With the current
COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential for everyone to maintain good public
hygiene at highly-frequented places such as hawker centres. The RAS,
Restroom Association (Singapore) commenced its public outreach at 40
hawker centres from January to March, as part of its 3-year LOO
(Let’s Observe Ourselves) Campaign @ Hawker Centres supported by
the National Environment Agency (NEA). RAS intends to reach out to all
hawker centres by end March 2024.
Apart from public outreach, the 3-year
campaign entails training of cleaning and facility management staff,
audits of public toilets and recognition of exemplary hawker centres. A
comprehensive audit report was shared with NEA and the town councils
managing the hawker centres. Audits are a key pillar of our flagship Happy Toilet Programme
and the public had the opportunity to better understand about them in
MediaCorp’s latest special series. The series featured interviews
with interesting work professionals and one of our Eco Assessors who had
been performing the audits, were featured in the series.
RAS is also pleased to receive the support
from Dyson on its Happy Toilets @ Preschools Projects Grant to offer grants
to participating preschools working with children on educational projects
ranging from decorating toilets, inspecting toilets to showing kindness
to cleaning attendants. We strongly believe the younger generation can be
better inculcated with good etiquette through projects instead of only conducting
lessons and talks. We hope our future generation can be more gracious to
show consideration to cleaning attendants by keeping toilets clean.
