2009 had been an eventful
year for the RAS with the introduction of the LOO Awards, our first
restroom awards for organisations and individuals in Singapore and the LOO
Map, our online map locator of Happy Toilets. RAS will not allow any room
for complacency to deter us from working diligently toward our LOO
Campaign 2010 goal of 70% happy toilets.
This
year, RAS will be setting its sight on bringing the standard of public
toilets at food and beverage establishments to a new level. Thus, it will
be rolling out its public education programme at these establishments
with the aim of reminding users to practise good restroom etiquette. RAS
will also generate more awareness by pushing its messages in the
heartlands such as the regional libraries.
We
continue to extend our reach to the public by participating actively in
events organised by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and even
appearing in a Chinese variety show to share with TV viewers the need to
practise the good habit of closing the toilet cover before flushing. We
were also caught by surprise when a group of postgraduates from a Dutch
university approached us to share with them about our initiatives and
projects, which also signifies our wider reach beyond Singapore.
We
are heartened by the growing participation in our Happy Toilet Programme
(HTP) especially in the healthcare sector as this is one of the key
sectors that will need high levels of hygiene to minimise the spread of
diseases. We are expecting more healthcare providers to certify their
toilets as Happy Toilets this year. With the growing demand, we will
continue to train more Eco-Assessors especially the Volunteer
Eco-Assessors to not only conduct mystery toilet audits but also work
with the Happy Toilet owners to ensure sustainability of the standards of
their Happy Toilets.
Our collective achievements would not
have been possible without your constant support and contributions. We certainly
are looking forward to your enthusiastic participation in 2010 to promote
better restroom culture!
