2008 had been a year of milestone achievements
for the RAS with the successful launch of LOO Campaign 2008-2010, inception
of the Inter Agencies Working Committee (IAWC) and the implementation of
the Certified/Volunteer Eco-Assessor (CEA/VEA) Programme. Tapping
on these achievements, RAS will constantly strive to break new grounds in 2009.
This year will see RAS synergising with
various organisations from the people, private and public sectors to bring
the standard of public toilets to a new level. The
IAWC now has three new sub-committees – Owners and Operators, Cleaners
and Contractors, and Users – to discuss specific issues and introduce
new initiatives.
We
are heartened by the growing participation in our Happy Toilet Programme (HTP)
which also translates to more job opportunities for the locals during this
economic downturn. With the ever-supportive Community Development Councils
(CDCs) extending their helping hands to recruit CEAs, we have managed to train more CEAs
and VEAs to meet the growing demand. We look
forward to much stronger HTP participation in the near future.
We
have extended our reach to work with undergraduates on toilet-related
projects such as the “Toilet Cleanliness Week” campaign
initiated by the undergraduates from Singapore Management University (SMU).
With the support and assistance from the National Environment Agency (NEA),
we have also extended our reach to stallholders from hawker centres.
We have come far with your constant support
and contributions to embark with us on the road less travelled. We hope that
you will continue to embark on an exciting journey with us in 2009!
