The RAS,
Restroom Association (Singapore) continued to reach out to the remaining
hawker centres in the final year of its LOO (Let’s Observe
Ourselves) Campaign @ Hawker Centres. Since 2011,
RAS has reached out to 80 hawker centres managed by 10 Town Councils and
3 social enterprises. QR-code educational tissue packets on showing kindness
to cleaning attendants were distributed to more than 25,000 public
patrons, garnering more than 1,200 online pledges to keep hawker centre
toilets clean.
The campaign also successfully encouraged
some town councils namely Jurong-Clementi, Nee Soon, Tanjong Pagar and
West Coast, to participate in our Happy Toilet Programme.
Including hawker centres, the past three months saw a rise in
certification of more Happy Toilets, which were equipped with Detect, Feedback, Eliminate
& Clean (DFEC) smart products certified by the Singapore
Green Building Council (SGBC). Last year, six smart products of three
companies were certified and presented with ceremonial certificates
by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment
Mr Baey Yam Keng. This year, four more companies came on board, making it
a total of 13 smart products.
The certification of DFEC smart products is a
new criteria for 4-star and above Happy Toilets which took effect in
April 2020. As time is required for the product certification, in our bid
to encourage Happy Toilet owners and operators to opt for reliable and
quality smart products, we are flexible to consider accepting smart
products, which are yet to be certified, for 4-star and above Happy
Toilet certification as long as they are already in the process of undergoing
certification by SGBC. We hope more smart product companies will undergo
certification as reliability and quality is crucial to proper toilet
maintenance. With the LOO Awards opening for nominations, we look forward
to receiving nominations of exemplary organisations and individuals with
outstanding contributions to the toilet environment.
