For the past three months, RAS has achieved many firsts, marking a few milestones. In conjunction with World Toilet Day on 19 November, RAS launched its unprecedented campaign, the LOO Campaign 2008-2010, which aims to achieve the 2010 goal of sprucing up 70% public toilets to a minimum 3-star Happy Toilet rating. RAS successfully garnered support from more than 20 organisations to sign our LOO Pledge, a pledge for toilet owners, operators, contractors, cleaners and users to pledge their commitment to toilet cleanliness.

RAS holds first Inter Agencies Working Committee (IAWC) meeting

RAS awards Happy Toilet School Education (HTSE) certification to the first international school

Another milestone for the school program pillar of the Restroom Association was reached in December as we welcomed DPS International School into our HTSE family. RAS staff first met teachers from DPS during the Clean and Green Schools Carnival and a formal handshake was preceded by a commitment to join and participate in our school program. RAS organises first Potty Training Workshop

RAS held its first Potty Training Workshop at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital on 15 November for 25 KK Juniors Club Members. The session which aims to educate new parents on how to potty train their 2 to 4 year olds, was organised by RAS and supported by KK Juniors Club.

RAS awards Happy Toilet certificate to the first National Environment Agency (NEA) Regional Office

Our President (left) presenting the Happy Toilet plaque to Mr Derek Ho, who was then the Head of NEA's North West Regional Office (NWRO) at the gathering on 23 October. NWRO is the first RO to have their toilets certified as Happy Toilets.

Training sessions for Volunteer Eco-Assessors (VEAs) and Certified Eco-Assessors (CEAs)

A two-hour training session for VEAs was conducted on 2 January 2009 while a two-day training session for CEAs will be conducted on 8-9 January 2009.

The second Inter Agencies Working Committee (IAWC) meeting

After a better-than-expected turnout at the first IAWC meeting, the next meeting is slated to be held in February 2009 with the focus being on toilet owners. The IAWC meeting is seen as a quarterly initiative spearheaded by RAS and WTO.

Singapore Youth Volunteer Conference (SYVC)

RAS has accepted an invitation to participate in the SYVC on 14-15 March 2009 as a “Best Practice Organization”. The purpose of the conference is to develop the youth participants as effective volunteers to understand volunteerism in Singapore.

Pulire Asia 2009

RAS has accepted an invitation to participate in Pulire Asia on 24-26 March 2009 at Suntec Singapore. RAS will be showcasing its exhibits and conducting a workshop on its programmes. Pulire Asia 2009 is the most relevant trade exhibition for cleaning industry and environmental services in Asia Pacific.
