RAS gets Creative with Dustbin Art

Taking part in "Creative Home" (a character development process involving the transformation of a public necessity into works of art and meaning), RAS has painted a dustbin to promote good toilet etiquette, encouraging public members to be responsible toilet users. Along with 87 other dustbins painted with a social/environment message, these dustbins are placed along Orchard Road for public use.

RAS participates in Semakau Corporate Environmental Outreach Run

As part of the Clean & Green Singapore Programme, RAS participated in the Semakau Corporate Environmental Outreach Run on 17 November whereby about S$390,000 was raised by more than 40 corporations to help preserve the environment.

Minister for Environment and Water Resources Yaacob Ibrahim flagged off the event, where heads of companies traded their corporate jackets for shorts and T-shirts.

Other beneficiaries of the fund raised include Singapore Environment Council, Climate Change Organisation, Singapore Institute of International Affairs Haze Programme, WaterWays Watch Society and Environmental Challenge Organisation.

Australian TV network visits Happy Toilets in Singapore

23 October 2007 marks the day that renowned Australian movie character Kenny drops by Singapore's Happy Toilets for the filming of TV series "Kenny- a World Tour of Toilets.

During the loo trip, Kenny was "wowed" by the 5-star Happy Toilet at Tampines Street 11 Round Market and the Happy Toilet Learning Journey in Meridian Primary School. Not only did Meridian's students share their HTSE experience with Kenny and crew, they also got their new Happy Toilet audited by him and gladly received the Gold Award from Kenny's hands!

RAS also shared our works and the Happy Toilet School Education Programme with them. Valuable opinions and ideas were exchanged between RAS staff, Meridian Primary School and the Australian TV Network.

The TV series is due to screen on Australian TV Network in April 2008.

Launch of My School Shines @ Southwest

21 March marked the day of the official launch of "My School Shines @ Southwest". Held in Tanglin Secondary School, Mayor of Southwest CDC Dr Amy Khor graced the event along with 19 other schools.

RAS is honored to have the Happy Toilet School Education Programme incorporated into the module of "Clean and Sparkling Toilets" as part of the "My School Shines" programme.

As one of the participating schools of the Happy Toilet School Education Programme, Tanglin Secondary School has chosen recyclables and DIY to decorate their toilets. Restroom Education Talk at My Centre @ Moulmein

Together with Viriya Community Services, RAS held its first Restroom Education Talk for senior citizens on 24 Aug 2007 at My Centre @ Moulmein. Conducted in Mandarin, the interesting talk engaged the attention of the audience and they participated actively during the session. They also learnt about the importance of good toilet etiquette and good toilet manners such as the correct way to wash their hands.

Launch of North West Green Festival 2007

30 June 2007 marked the official launch day of the North West Green Festival 2007, which was held at Bukit Panjang Plaza. Guest-of-Honor Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Environment and Water Resources, graced the event along with the Mayor of North West District Dr Teo Ho Pin. Organized by the North West Community Development Council (NWCDC), the Green Festival focuses on three areas, namely 1) Energy Conservation 2) Public Health and 3) Nature Appreciation.

RAS is proud to put up a joint performance together with 16 students from the Gloryland Learning Centre (Cashew) for this event. This lovely bunch of children conveyed the importance of keeping the toilets clean and hygienic as well as the need to appreciate our cleaners through creative dance steps and actions.

Evergreen Primary School, one of the participating schools of the Happy Toilet School Education (HTSE) Programme, has also joined us at this event and conducted toilet-related educational games at RASí booth.

Reaching out to the youths in SHINE! Festival 2007

Held at *Scape on 30th June 2007, the SHINE! Youth Fest Launch was officiated by Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, the Guest of Honour for the event.

RAS was privileged to be given the opportunity to reach out to the youths at the event by having a booth there. We made great use of the booth to raise some funds by setting up a bazaar store and displaying interesting information about RAS.

With the help of our volunteers, we managed to mingle with the guests and gained youth's interest about RAS's works. Many of them also expressed interest to work with RAS to improve local toilet conditions.

Tea Session to "Appreciate our Volunteers"

It was a wonderful afternoon at Bishan Community Library on 22nd June 2007 as RAS held our first Tea Session with our volunteers and Associate Members. The tea session, entitled "RAS Appreciates You!" ,was organized to thank our partners for their generous help and support.

The attendees had great fun interacting and playing games in the laughter filled atmosphere. A heart-warming tribute was also played to showcase and appreciate our volunteers' efforts.

In recognition of the hard work and efforts of our partners, Certificates of Appreciation were also given to Siling Primary School, Teck Whye Primary School, Chong Boon Secondary School, Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) and Mr Lim Ah Kum (Volunteer). The event was commemorated with a nice group photo accompanied with light refreshments.

RAS participates in Project Million Lotus 2007- A Pillar of Support for Public Health Compassion

Adopted by the Restroom Association (Singapore), the "Happy Toilet Pillar" is one of the 51 Harmony Pillars adopted by various schools, community and religious organizations in participation of Project Million Lotus- an event organized by the Singapore Buddhist Federation to celebrate Vesak Day. The 51 pillars (each shaped like a lotus petal) formed a mammoth lotus which was on display at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza from 26-27 May.

As part of RAS's Outreach and Education efforts, RAS's Happy Toilet Pillar showcased public health efforts by 13 of its participating schools in the Happy Toilet School Education (HTSE) Programme. Restroom Ambassadors of these schools were featured in action as they demonstrate Social Responsibility & Social Graciousness towards the toilets and fellow schoolmates.

Block Party at Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 by Kebun Baru Bestari Residents' Committee

As an active community partner, RAS is pleased to be part of the recent Block Party held on 25 March by the Kebun Baru Bestari Residents' Committee with Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, Mr Inderjit Singh as the Guest-of-Honor.

As part of the party's objectives to promote resident bonding and raise awareness on the importance of Healthy Living, a brief talk about good toilet etiquette was conducted along with the popular mega board game "The Loo-tiquette Quest!". Both activities were well-received by the residents.

Other participants of the event included the National Environment Agency.
