The RAS,
Restroom Association (Singapore) is honoured to receive the support from
partners and supporters to jointly launch the Public Toilet Cleanliness
Campaign and 4th edition of the Guide
to Better Public Toilet Design & Maintenance at the 10th LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves)
Awards on 19 November, World Toilet Day. A
record 20 restroom cleaning attendants were also recognised for the first
time at the awards to mark the 20th anniversary of its inception since
1998.
As we commemorate World
Toilet Day every year on 19 November to raise public awareness about the
4.5 billion less-privileged population living without proper toilets, we
should be very thankful for having excellent toilet infrastructure in
Singapore. With quality toilet infrastructure, toilet cleanliness in
Singapore has to be sustained and it is timely to launch the Public
Toilet Cleanliness Campaign. We are working closely with the National
Environment Agency (NEA), owners and operators, on public outreach
roadshows, to encourage everyone to be gracious and adopt good restroom
etiquette.
Toilet cleanliness and
maintenance can be better managed with the adoption of smart technology. The
new edition of the Guide focuses on smart technology for effective
cleaning and maintenance. The Guide would not have been published without
the support from our partners from the public, private and people
sectors. Government agencies, Agency for Science, Technology and Research
(ASTAR), NEA and PUB, together with the Environmental Management
Association of Singapore and World Toilet Organization, actively
contributed to the Guide. Private companies namely 3M Singapore, Adsec
Systems, Aqua Tech, Convergent Smart Technologies, Infinergy Systems
Solutions and VISO also contributed to a new section about the adoption
of smart technology in toilets.
As Singapore realises
its vision of becoming a smart nation, RAS is playing its active role in developing
smart toilets with the adoption of technology. I hope with the concurrent
launch of the Campaign and Guide, everyone - owners, operators, cleaning
service providers, cleaning attendants and public users will benefit from
the initiative as we welcome the New Year with a step closer to becoming a
smart nation with smart toilets.
