In our collaboration
with SurveyMonkey, the
results revealed most respondents had expressed disappointment if their child
were to work as a cleaning attendant as compared to the other three
occupations namely production worker, delivery driver and security
officer. However, 9 in 10 of them strongly believed people should be
applauded for keeping toilets clean. Apart from our annual LOO (Let’s Observe
Ourselves) Awards, SaniGives can be a good fundraising initiative to
better recognise our fellow cleaning attendants.
At our LOO Awards this year, we were
heartened to receive the continued support from Senior Minister of State
for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Amy Khor, who was also our
Guest-of-Honour for the launch of our LOO Campaign and
LOO Awards in 2008 and 2010 respectively. A record 47 organisations,
schools and individuals received the awards including our first volunteer
leader Mr Derek Cheung, who received our star volunteer award for his
active role in training new volunteers to conduct mystery restroom
audits. Volunteer leaders play a vital role of overseeing and managing
new volunteers, so as to sustain volunteer activities, which require a
strong sense of ownership and commitment. We strongly urge more
volunteers to take up the role of a volunteer leader, to lead more
activities and reach out to the public.
In our bid to raise awareness overseas and
share our key initiatives with more organisations and individuals, we
gladly accepted World Toilet Organization’s invitation to be one of
the panellists at its World Toilet Summit in Kuching. We remain committed
to raise awareness locally by reaching out to preschoolers, parents and
teachers at the Clean & Green Singapore
(CGS) Carnival. As we welcome the New Year, we are already gearing up
for our SaniGives initiative to raise more funds for our fellow cleaning
attendants. The success will greatly depend on the strong support we
receive from sanitary-product companies and the public.
