The RAS,
Restroom Association (Singapore) collaborated with the Institute of
Technical Education (ITE) College East to commemorate World Toilet Day on
19 November at the campus with an exciting showcase of activities and
exhibits. The LOO (Let's Observe Ourselves) Awards was also presented to
17 exemplary recipients behind the move of achieving higher toilet
standards. In its bid to raise toilet standards, RAS took the lead to
introduce a new Happy Toilet six-star rating.
The four and five-star ratings were also
reviewed to improve user experience and meet higher public expectations.
One of the requirements of the new six-star rating is to ensure all
cleaning attendants undergo the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications
(WSQ) module in washroom cleaning. Therefore, after the LOO Awards
ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony was held
with training provider Center for
Competency-Based Learning & Development (CBLD).
Higher toilet standards are achievable not
only with better designs and properly trained cleaning attendants but
most importantly, a higher level of graciousness displayed by public
users. Therefore, for the past three months, we had been actively
organising LOO Carnivals or exhibitions at 9 shopping malls and a country
club to educate its patrons to show kindness to cleaning attendants and
fellow users.
RAS also
participated in an all-new initiative, Idea Jam, co-organised by the
Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and The Straits Times to
engage a group of students to roll out a public educational campaign. As
we approach a new year, we are already setting concrete targets to
achieve more milestones with the launch of a revamped preschool
programme, a World Toilet Day Fund and World Toilet Day Forum for
preschools and schools.
