For
the past three months, RAS has been actively working with various
organisations from the private, public and people sectors to promote clean
public restrooms. I am heartened to witness some of these organisations to
receive our inaugural LOO Awards at the World Toilet Summit & Expo
(WTSE) this year.
The
first World Toilet Summit was inaugurated in Singapore in 2001 by the World
Toilet Organization (WTO). After eight years, I am pleased to see this
annual event, now known as the World Toilet Summit & Expo (WTSE), return
to Singapore this year. As a founding member of the WTO, RAS is proud to be
the local partner for this signature event to showcase and share our
programmes with the delegates and guests. Owing to the support from
everyone especially the National Environment Agency (NEA), our sponsors,
Happy Toilet owners and the general public, I am honoured to be inducted
into WTO’s Hall of Fame.
RAS
was made known to more members of the public during community events,
thanks to invitations extended by the NEA and other organisations. RAS
continues its outreach to teachers, preschoolers, primary, secondary and
tertiary students by participating in school-related events such as the
Clean and Green Singapore (CGS) Schools’ Carnival and the Enviro-Life Sciences Symposium 2009.
With
the coming of a new year and the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, I hope to see
more toilet owners and operators coming forth to participate in our Happy
Toilet Programme not only to work towards our LOO Campaign goal of having
70% Happy Toilets but to also open our doors to welcome tourists with clean
public toilets.
