RAS conducts training for Ascendas-Singbridge

A full-day theoretical session was conducted in August at the Ascendas-Singbridge office in the Galaxis building after a couple of discussion meetings in May and June. Key staff including senior management attended the training which covered the following topics:

Practical sessions were then conducted for all property management staff in September. Each practical session equipped the staff to demonstrate understanding of public toilet assessment so as to effectively conduct assessments according to the RAS checklist and submit results, feedback and recommendations as follows:

·      Purpose of public toilet assessment

·       Areas of public toilet assessment

·       Quality standards of public toilet assessment

RAS certifies Far East Malls under the star-rated Happy Toilet Programme (HTP) for the first time

HTP2After an on-site consultation for Clark Quay Central shopping mall, more than 20 toilets were Happy Toilet certified in September. More than 40 shopping malls from AsiaMalls Management Pte Ltd, City Developments Limited, Far East Organization, Frasers Centrepoint Limited, Housing & Development Board (HDB) and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands are under the HTP.

RAS views the HTP as another pillar of effective public education – educating users to exercise care so as to sustain the star-rating of Happy Toilets. Since 2010, RAS has been actively collaborating with many malls to hold exhibitions and carnivals to educate shoppers to keep Happy Toilets clean. From 2014, recognition of cleaning attendants, who are maintaining Happy Toilets, is incorporated to raise public awareness about the importance of showing kindness to the attendants.

RAS shares good hygiene practices with preschool principals and teachers

At the NEA Pre-school Environmental Education Advisor Networking Session this year, instead of sharing about its Happy Toilets @ Preschools Programme (HTPP) which has reached out to more than 100 preschools, RAS shared some good hygiene practices after its active observations of HTPP participating preschools. A number of observations RAS shared with participants include:

  • Toilet signage at children’s nea2eye level to educate the children about locating toilets at public places such as shopping centres and hawker centres
  • Children-friendly soap dispensers for children to effortlessly press for hand soap
  • The use of foam soap to save water
  • The use of rubber hose for showering or washing
  • Proper removal of human spillages such as vomit, blood, etc
  • The difference between sanitising and disinfecting
  • Colour-coding system for mops, cloths and pails to prevent cross contamination
  • Right usage of chemicals
  • Simple educational logos
  • Fun hand-washing steps
  • Reward stickers to encourage children to practise good hygiene

After the end of the presentation, queues were formed at our booth with more than 20 preschools signing up. RAS also set up a booth to showcase its HTPP and its partners, PurSoft tissue distributor Universal Sovereign Trading, ozone water solution provider Adsec Global and Dyson hand dryer supplier Viso, were also present to showcase their products. RAS has participated in this preschool event since 2010.

RAS engages Republic Polytechnic students to raise funds through Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes (YFC) 2017

After their successful attempt to be among 100 teams selected for the YFC 2017 in May, four passionate Republic Polytechnic (RP) students embarked on their crusade to raise funds for RAS. On 11th July, with the support of the polytechnic’s School of Management and Communication, the students actively mobilised more than 100 RP students from various Schools to attend a ‘Sew In Love’ session to sew cloth pieces and make them into tissue holders. Prior to this session, the citi2students had launched a donation drive at RP to collect old and unwanted clothing to be cut into cloth pieces, which would then be sewed to be made into tissue holders for sale at carnivals.

Thereafter, owing to the strong support from venue sponsor HDB, four carnivals were successfully organised at its malls island-wide in Jurong West, Queenstown, Sengkang and Woodlands. Apart from conducting games and selling tissue holders to raise funds, $840 worth of grocery vouchers were also presented to 21 cleaning attendants with each attendant receiving $40. The students also organised another fundraising event at RP to raise more funds. More than $450 were raised at these events and though the amount may seem insignificant, it will make a vast difference to the esteem and lives of the cleaning attendants, whom we will continue to recognise at future events.
