With the World Toilet Day (WTD) just around the corner, RAS is rolling out more concrete plans to commemorate it. Since the inception of WTD in 2001, RAS has been organising events to commemorate it every year. It is indeed invigorating that the WTD has finally captured worldwide attention with the United Nations General Assembly adopting a new resolution to designate 19 November as WTD. With this milestone, we hope the crucial subject of toilets will shed its taboo image and become a widely-discussed topic.

RAS gears up for World Toilet Day (WTD)

RAS is planning a series of events and activities – Singapore WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) Conference, LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Carnival at 5 shopping malls and Hawker Centre Happy Toilet Cleanup – to commemorate WTD. The key public message this year is to ignite a SPARK – Share, Promote & Adopt Restroom Kindness.

RAS certifies first preschool and more government buildings under the Happy Toilet Programme (HTP)

The PAP Community Foundation (PCF) Yew Tee Preschool has become the first preschool to certify its toilets as star-rated Happy Toilets after participating in the Happy Toilet School Education for Preschools (HTSEP). As for government buildings, Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) Building is the 8th government building on board the HTP.

A variety of themes were employed by students, teachers and parent volunteers to enhance the washrooms at those schools. Now we ‘open those toilet doors’ to show some creative examples.

One of our established school partners within our school programme, Holy Innocents Primary School. Their washrooms are beautifully decorated incorporating themes of environmental awareness and National Education. The school has undertaken other significant activities to actively promote good personal hygiene and restroom etiquette.

Singapore WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) Conference 2013

The inaugural Singapore WASH Conference will be held on 19th November from 9am to 6pm at the Tampines Regional Library – venue sponsored by the National Library Board – to provide building owners, engineers, architects, facility and environmental professionals with information about WASH regulations, guidelines, planning, practices and promotion.

LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Carnival 2013

The LOO Carnival will be held e week from 21st October to 24th November at five shopping malls – venue sponsored by the HDB – namely Pasir Ris West Plaza, Dawson Place, Taman Jurong Shopping Centre, Fajar Shopping Centre and Rivervale Plaza. The carnival aims to raise public awareness about World Toilet Day.

COLON CANCER is the number one cancer in Singapore [1]. Frequent constipation increases the risk of colon cancer [2, 3]. Adopting the squatting posture reduces constipation [4]. This is because the ano-rectal angle is straightened during squatting [5, 6], thus allowing stools to pass out more smoothly.
