With the World Toilet Day (WTD) just around
the corner, RAS is rolling out more concrete plans to commemorate WTD.
Since the inception of WTD in 2001, RAS has been organising events to
commemorate it every year. It is indeed invigorating that the WTD has
finally captured worldwide attention with the United Nations General
Assembly adopting a new resolution to designate 19 November as WTD. With
this milestone, we hope the crucial subject of toilets will shed its
taboo image and become a widely-discussed topic.
Since
the launch of the LOO
(Let’s Observe Ourselves) Campaign on WTD in 2008, RAS has been
actively engaging owners, cleaning companies and public users on its
holistic approach to achieve clean toilets for everyone. The Happy Toilet
Programme (HTP) is tirelessly promoted as it is viewed as a tangible
and credible indicator of toilet cleanliness. We are heartened that the
HTP has achieved another milestone with the first preschool coming
onboard the HTP. We are not only anticipating more preschools to join the
HTP but more government buildings to follow suit as well. On behalf of
our pool of Certified Eco-Assessors from low-income families, we wish to
express our sincere appreciation to all HTP supporters for lending their
helping hands.
Public
awareness and school education programmes, which are our key focus, have
evolved over the years. With the proliferation of social and online media
sites for the past few years, RAS has been leveraging on it to
effectively reach out to netizens. Our public
awareness efforts were also featured in Toggle, MediaCorp’s
latest online entertainment site. The STAR (Sustaining Toilets As
Restrooms) Awards School Education Programme also sees the introduction
of a new project on cleaning attendants’ appreciation activities to
further promote restroom graciousness and kindness. This is also in line
with our key WTD message this year, “Ignite a SPARK – Share,
Promote & Adopt Restroom Kindness”. As we ignite a SPARK, we
hope everyone can burn with an eternal flame of restroom kindness towards
cleaning attendants, fellow users and 2.5 billion people around the world
still without a toilet.
