Last year, the
RAS, Restroom Association (Singapore) commemorated the 20th anniversary
of its inception since 1998 with multiple milestones – First
six-star restrooms awarded at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands in
April, Happy
Toilets @ Preschools Booklet & Handbook launch in August, Public
Toilet Cleanliness Campaign and 4th edition of the Guide
to Better Public Toilet Design & Maintenance launch in November.
I am pleased with the owners’
commitment in their provision of star-rated quality restrooms, which is
fast gaining momentum not only in Singapore but also in the ASEAN region.
I wish to extend my heartiest congratulations to four exemplary Happy
Toilet owners including the six-star Happy Toilet owner, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, for
clinching the coveted ASEAN Public Toilet Awards at the ASEAN Tourism
Award 2019 held in Vietnam. It was heartening to know our Happy Toilet
accreditation had been favourably and highly regarded as a strong testimony
of quality standards for the award.
For the past three
months since the launch of the Public Toilet Cleanliness Campaign, RAS has
actively supported the campaign, speaking at a Wanbao Coffeetalk session to share with
the public about its initiatives ranging from the Happy Toilet Programme
to the Toilet
Guide and STAR Awards
Programme for schools. RAS also garnered the support of past recipients
of its LOO (Let’s
Observe Ourselves) Awards, to participate in filming a series of
educational videos with the National Environment Agency (NEA) and
Singapore Kindness Movement.
User education has
always remained our key focus and education from young is paramount to
the sustainability of clean toilets. We continued to reach out to more
preschools and schools by participating in a preschool networking session
organised by the NEA in January, followed by a school talk for Operations
Managers in February to share about its STAR Awards Programme. With the
LOO Awards opened for nominations from April till September, we look
forward to receiving more nominations.
