RAS certifies SBS Transit Downtown Line (DTL) train stations under the star-rated Happy Toilet Programme (HTP)

The restroom standard of train stations, which are operated by both SBS Transit and SMRT, has been much enhanced over the years. LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Awards recipient for last year, A-Force Maintenance Pte Ltd, went the extra mile to introduce the HTP to SBS Transit DTL train stations and thus set a new milestone of the first SBS Transit train stations to be accredited. After three DTL stations were accredited in March, five more DTL stations namely Bencoolen, Bendemeer, Fort Canning, Geylang Bahru and Jalan Besar will soon follow suit. Additionally, SMRT has four new stations namely Gul Circle, Tuas Crescent, Tuas Link and Tuas West enrolled with the HTP. A total of 57 SMRT train stations along the Circle, North-South and East-West line have been progressively accredited since its first accreditation in 2013.

As more cleaning service providers are NEA Clean Mark accredited, the HTP accreditation scheme has become another benchmark for owners and operators to assess the quality performance of cleaning service providers. It is positively viewed as a third-party independent assessment on the performance of these service providers. It has also become one of the factors that can effectively position the service providers above the rest of their competitors when tendering for cleaning contracts. The award recipient, A-Force Maintenance, which was Silver Clean Mark accredited, was not only committed in maintaining Happy Toilets at 10 SMRT Circle Line and 4 SMRT East-West line train stations, it also went the extra mile to introduce the HTP to Downtown Line train operator SBS Transit. We hope more cleaning service providers will emulate the commitment of A-Force Maintenance by participating in the HTP.

RAS shares its in-depth knowledge with foreign professionals

After a series of training sessions conducted from August to September last year which received acclaim from the Ascendas-Singbridge (ASB) senior management, RAS was invited to the ASB Forum in New Delhi on 21st March to share similar information about design, maintenance and education with other ASB professionals from countries like Australia, China and India. The professionals were provided with first hand information on effective design that would influence better user behaviour and facilitate cleaning. Practical knowledge about assessing the performance of the cleaning service provider was also shared and this was followed by effective public education on showing kindness to cleaning attendants.

RAS was also approached by WaterAid in Bangladesh to host a study trip for their delegates from 21st to 22nd February. Apart from sharing similar information about design, maintenance and education, RAS also invited its partners to share about smart toilet technology and ended the two-day study trip with a site visit to star-rated Happy Toilets at Sentosa and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. On 30th March, RAS President made a trip to Xi’an China to share about Singapore’s sanitation history and our success stories with visiting delegates at a summit organised by the World Toilet Organization.

RAS extends its public outreach to raise awareness about SaniGives

After the milestone launch of SaniGives at Our Tampines Hub on 17th November, which saw a total of 59 cleaning attendants presented with a total $2,360 worth of vouchers, RAS continued to actively reach out to other attendants islandwide by seeking the support from the Housing & Development Board (HDB) to organise exhibitions and appreciation activities at five of its shopping malls from February to March. Close to 30 attendants at the five malls were each presented with $40 worth of vouchers.

Exhibitions to raise public awareness about SaniGives and key education programmes namely the Happy Toilets @ Preschools Programme and STAR (Sustaining Toilets As Restrooms) Awards Programme for schools were displayed. The exhibition displays also directed the public to download the LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Whiz restroom-cleaning game from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The purpose of the game is to educate the public to better appreciate the efforts of the cleaning attendants by acting responsibly. Players who downloaded the mobile game can also find out more information about SaniGives from the game menu.

RAS participates actively in school networking sessions

RAS continued to strongly support events organised by the National Environment Agency (NEA) by inviting its partner Adsec Global to showcase its ozone-water product and exhibitions about our STAR Awards Programme at two school networking sessions in January and March. For the Environmental Education Advisor (EEA) Networking Session held at Fernvale Primary School on 27th January, a good turnout of more than 200 teacher EEAs from 172 schools attended the event and visited our booth to find out more about our school programme.

After a successful run of this event, RAS was again invited to the Environment Challenge for Schools (ECS) Networking on 2nd March to showcase its exhibits at Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary School. The networking session was useful for both the school and organisation representatives to find out more about the ECS competition and to network with and find suitable partners.
