At the LOO (Let’s Observe
Ourselves) Awards held in November last year, the RAS, Restroom
Association (Singapore) launched SaniGives, a holistic initiative to raise public
awareness about showing kindness and recognition towards cleaning
attendants. After the launch, weekly exhibitions about SaniGives were held at five shopping malls to
continue to raise public awareness, with close to 30 attendants working
at the malls presented with grocery vouchers.
While we strongly believe the commitment to
providing quality restrooms is paramount to achieving high restroom
standards, we are heartened to be invited to speak and share our success
stories with like-minded stakeholders in India and China. Better designs,
efficient cleaning practices and effective public education were shared with
the attendees. Similar information was also shared with a group of
visiting delegates from Bangladesh through WaterAid. We are confident we
will be visiting quality restrooms in these countries especially their rural
areas in the near future.
Our Happy Toilet accreditation is not only a testimony
to the owner’s commitment to providing toilets of recognised standards;
it also serves as a testimony to the cleaning service provider’s
commitment to maintain toilets of recognised standards. It is indeed
encouraging to see A-Force Maintenance Pte Ltd, which is maintaining some
of the SMRT train stations’ Happy Toilets along the North-South,
East-West and Circle Lines, going the extra mile to achieve Happy Toilet
accreditation for SBS Transit Downtown Line train stations under its
care. This sets a new milestone of the first SBS Transit train stations
to be accredited under the Happy Toilet Programme (HTP). We are pretty
optimistic more SBS Transit train stations will be accredited in the future.
User
education remains a fundamental part to the sustainability of clean
toilets as we continue to reach out to schools by participating in school
networking sessions organised by the National Environment Agency in
January and March. As we mark the 20th anniversary of our inception on
8th December 1998, this year will see some initiatives and projects
implemented such as the revised edition of the Guide to Better Public
Toilet Design and Maintenance to focus on smart technologies.
