The RAS, Restroom
Association (Singapore) made a promising start this year in February with
the launch of its new Happy
Toilets @ Preschools Programme and the 1st edition of A Guide to Better Preschool Toilet Design, Maintenance and Education.
We strongly believe proper restroom etiquette must be inculcated from
young so as to promote a gracious society with good hygiene standard.
With this new preschool programme launch, it
marks the completion of our preschool and school programmes in the adoption
of a holistic approach to toilet design, maintenance and user education. We
wish to extend our heartiest gratitude to Generation Kidz
@ Limau and PCF Sparkletots
Preschool @ Telok Blangah
for displaying their strong commitment to pilot the new programme with us
to achieve the highest accreditation of completing the three phases on
Design, Maintenance and Education.
While we organised a Happy Toilet Seminar in
the afternoon to launch the new preschool programme and share the
programme with preschool operators, we also actively engaged the Happy
Toilet commercial owners by organising a separate Happy Toilet Seminar in
the morning to provide them with information on the revised four and
five-star rating criteria and the new six-star rating. Our partners
namely Adkel Solutions, Adsec
Global and Infinergy Systems extended their support
to showcase and present their innovative solutions to both preschool
operators and commercial owners at the seminar.
Apart from
organising the Happy Toilet Seminar to actively reach out to the owners, RAS
also participated in the World Water Day not only to educate the visitors
on water conservation but also raise public awareness on its key
programmes which include recognising and appreciating the efforts of
cleaning attendants. Though public education underscores the building of
a gracious society, school education which inculcates restroom etiquette
from young is indispensable.
Since the launch
of our S.T.A.R
(Sustaining Toilets As Restrooms) Awards Programme in 2011, we have
actively engaged 60 schools every year. We are heartened to receive the
support from the principal of Dunman High
School who instrumentally spearheaded the initiative of engaging his
students to clean the school toilets to better appreciate the efforts of
the cleaning attendants. In our bid to rope in more students to implement
restroom-related projects, we participated in the St. Hilda's Secondary
Annual Service Learning Symposium. With the World Toilet Day
Commemoration Fund to be introduced in the next quarter, we hope to see
more schools applying for this fund to organise activities in October and
November to commemorate World Toilet Day.
