RAS shares restroom hygiene tips with JTC tenants

RAS was invited by the JTC to conduct a sharing session on restroom hygiene with close to 100 tenants and lessees mostly from the F&B and retail sectors. The invited guests were not only educated on restroom hygiene but also updated on RAS’ exisiting programmes and new intiatives i.e. the Happy Toilet Programme, LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Connect and LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Whiz. The guests also had the opportunity to learn about poor sanitation conditions of developing countries and interesting modern day concepts of developed countries.

RAS also invited its partner Tav Shield, to set up an exhibition booth to showcase its innovative restroom solutions. In 2009, RAS was also invited by the National Environment Agency (NEA) Hawkers Department to conduct an educational talk to stallholders on the dos and don’ts of using toilets. Since 2009, RAS has conducted numerous educational talks for working professionals from all walks of life such as the medical, logistics, F&B and service industry.

RAS trains volunteers to conduct mystery Happy Toilet audits in the South West district

Owing to the generosity of the venue supporter JTC, a group of 12 volunteers gathered at the JTC Summit in Jurong East for a training session on a Saturday afternoon. The training session consisted of both theoretical and practical lessons on restroom assessment which would equip volunteers with the appropriate skills to complete the restroom checklist. After the training, the volunteers headed off to coffeeshops in the South West district i.e. Choa Chu Kang, Clementi, Jurong West and West Coast to conduct mystery Happy Toilet audits.

8 teams of one to two volunteers were assigned to two to four coffeeshops depending on the distance of the locations. After the audit, volunteers had to submit their results online. In December last year, RAS also tapped on SG Cares portal, an initiative by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), for volunteers to conduct Happy Toilet mystery audits in the South East district. Since 2010, RAS has been engaging the help of SG Cares for volunteers to help out at its various community activities.

RAS showcases its latest initiatives at River Valley High School

For the second consecutive year, RAS was an invited participant of River Valley High School’s Service and Citizenship Society’s Learning Festival. RAS was given the opportunity to once again showcase its school programme projects that complement the Ministry of Education’s new Values In Action initiative. Along with other community partners like Waterways Watch Society, RAS introduced a series of possible volunteering opportunities for interested students to partake in.

The student body of River Valley High came down to the exhibition booths at staggered intervals to view the exhibits and gain more information about our outreach initiatives. RAS was once again pleased to see the interest shown by the students as the students asked very pertinent questions and pledged to keep their school washrooms clean. Aside from our projects and our LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Connect feedback portal, many students were also given a demonstration of our LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Whiz facebook game and agreed that it was a good way to empathise with their school cleaners. RAS looks forward to more of such school events in the near future.

RAS supports Singapore World Water Day (WWD)

After its maiden participation at the WWD last year, RAS was invited again by the PUB to reach out to visitors at the Marina Barrage on 16th March. Apart from inviting visitors to take our survey, visitors also had fun playing our interactive LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) Whiz facebook game to experience the demanding work of restroom cleaning. Our partner Tav Shield was also present to demonstrate to visitors its coating technology that created a thin protective film enabling surfaces to be cleaned easily.

The WWD is held internationally on 22 March every year as a means of focusing attention on the importance of water and advocating for the sustainable management of water resources. PUB commemorated its first WWD in 2009 and this year, island-wide activities was held with the anchor event at Marina Barrage, accompanied by satellite activities at five major Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) sites and partners' adopted water bodies.
