2010 was a fruitful year
for RAS with groundbreaking events such as the LOO (Let’s Observe
Ourselves) Carnival, LOO (Let’s Observe Ourselves) @ Heartlands
initiative and the release of a 70-page Inter-Agency Working Committee
(IAWC) report, which is also a 3-year blueprint on public restrooms. This
series of events has certainly heightened the awareness of everyone
– restroom owners, cleaners and users – on the need to
observe and work together to sustain the quality restroom standards in
Singapore.
This
year, we will continue to adopt our four-pronged approach of building an excellent
restroom culture by
- Encouraging owners to
provide quality restrooms
- Lobbying the cleaning
industry to meet the right standards
- Educating socially
responsible users
- Recognising
organisations and individuals
We
have made a promising start with the introduction of our first Happy
Toilet Seminar and revamped school education programme – Sustaining
Toilets As Restrooms (STAR) Awards programme. Both activities garnered
strong support from both the toilet owners and schools with more expected
to come onboard our Happy Toilet and STAR Awards Programme soon.
While
we continue to work closely with the National Environment Agency and
actively participating in their events, we also partner with the
Community Development Councils (CDCs) –
North West and South West CDCs – to reach out to more schools and the general
public. We are certainly anticipating a stronger collaboration and
bonding with more organisations from the public, private and people
sectors this year. Let’s Observe Ourselves Keenly (LOOK) together
to foster a gracious society embracing excellence in restroom culture.
