As we cross the halfway
mark this year, the Restroom Association (Singapore) or RAS has been
relentlessly promoting its flagship Happy Toilet Programme
(HTP) to committed owners. With the launch of the LOO (Let’s Observe
Ourselves) Connect Android app, this app complements the HTP to
create another publicity platform which distinctly places the Happy
Toilets on the Singapore map. The launch of the app has prompted renowned
tourist attractions, Sentosa and The
Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, to participate in the HTP
for the first time.
After
launching the PC version of the LOO Connect in September last year, the
Singapore Land Authority (SLA) and Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) had been
working tirelessly to develop a mobile app. We wish to extend our
heartiest appreciation to them for going the extra mile in helping us to
develop this mobile app which greatly facilitates users’ provision
of feedback to us. While the LOO Connect aims to identify dirty toilet
operators through public feedback, it also acts as a platform for us to help
them. The latest version of the LOO Connect also enables our volunteers
to submit their findings to us after a Happy Toilet mystery audit. Their
efforts will help to ensure our Happy Toilets are up to mark.
Our
efforts over the years in rebranding RAS as a Voluntary Welfare
Organisation (VWO) have finally paid off with our recent induction to the
National Council of Social Service (NCSS) as an associate member. We will
continue to roll out more people-centric programmes and activities to address
the welfare of the low-income group including the cleaning attendants. We
are pleased to introduce a
new kindness project this year as part of our STAR Programme for schools to encourage them to
organise activities to appreciate the efforts of school cleaning
attendants. Through such activities, we hope students can act graciously to
lessen the workload of the cleaning attendants. Last year, the NYP developed
the LOO
Whiz Facebook game, a hands-on restroom cleaning game which is
gaining popularity among students, to educate the public to better
appreciate the efforts of the cleaning attendants.
We
are heartened that both government and private educational institutions,
ranging from primary to tertiary levels, have continued to engage us . The 3-year educational campaign by the ITE
College East has reached its final phase this year reinforcing the need
for students to keep their toilets clean. While we reach out to educational
institutions, we are also steadfast in our efforts in reaching out to
corporate professionals. Our participation in the International Facility
Management (iFaME) Expo has generated interest in our programmes and
activities from both local and international guests. RAS will continue to
work diligently with all potential partners to improve our restroom
standards.
